Dit keer in het Engels, als een bijdrage op LinkedIn: Some simple truths about politics.
Be it in the Netherlands, China, or the USA, or anywhere on earth, we only need a few simple guidelines for restoring ethics in politics:
- do not tell lies
- spread wealth in a just manner
- uphold the rule of law for everyone
- prioritize public over private interest
- fight the unequal treatment of citizens
- do not misuse you power for personal gain (and do not accept bribes)
- appoint people in power on the basis of their competence and their loyalty to the common cause
That’s all. Quite simple isn’t it? However, as is often the case with simple guidelines, in reality, they prove difficult to implement. Fortunately, the reason for this difficulty is also very simple: The ones holding power are scared to lose their privileges and their extreme wealth, so they will obstruct any form of implementation.
And so, for the sake of returning ethics in the center of politics, we need to vote all extremely rich and privileged people out of power.
Simple isn’t it? And what if we cannot vote anymore?
Ps: just as a side-note. None of these guidelines are followed by the Trump administration.
